Q3: Stock Prices Over Time
Exploring Stock Price Trends of Top 5 Tech Companies (January 2021 - February 2023)
In this section, we go beyond just looking at how much people are talking about certain topics and explore whether big events that shake up the tech world affect the stock prices of well-known tech giants. We’re keeping a close eye on companies like Microsoft, Nvidia, Adobe, Alphabet, and Amazon. By studying how their stock prices have changed from January 2021 to February 2023, we hope to spot any patterns that line up with major events in the world of innovation.
Our observations support our initial guess. Before January 27, 2022, the stock prices of these tech giants either rose steadily or stayed about the same. However, after the significant events involving OpenAI, especially on January 27, 2022, we noticed a clear drop in stock prices across the board. What’s particularly striking is the visible decline in stock prices for Amazon and Google (Alphabet) after the OpenAI events. Interestingly, Nvidia, Adobe, and Alphabet also saw their stock prices dip after January 27, 2022, but around October 2022, their stock prices leveled off or even showed a slight increase, seemingly unaffected by the OpenAI events.
Additional investigation may be necessary to understand why these companies’ stock prices are moving in different directions. Factors like how people feel about the market, specific changes within each company, and larger patterns in the industry could all be influencing how stock prices change over time. It could also be useful to look into how OpenAI’s innovations are affecting what people think about the market and how investors feel, as this could help explain why stock prices are going up or down.
Our analysis of stock price trends among major tech companies offers valuable insights into how market dynamics are influenced by innovation events. By studying how top tech firms respond to big changes in their industry, we can better grasp how innovation affects investor sentiment and market behavior. These insights are essential for investors, policymakers, and industry insiders looking to navigate the rapidly changing world of the tech sector.
